Bench fit and service clearances
This Proto Bench specs page gives the practical dimensions and technical points buyers need before planning a prototype workstation.
Proto Bench needs to fit the space you have, the stock you cut, and the way your workstation is laid out. Buyers usually compare benchtop width, machine footprint, cable routing, dust extraction position, and room to load material without twisting around cupboards or walls. In South African workshops that share plugs, compressors, and assembly space, those details matter before the first test cut.
Keep the dimensions next to your bench sketch, power point location, and extraction hose size so the machine position is settled before delivery. That reduces rework when clamps, spoilboard access, or front loading space turn out tighter than expected.
What these figures help decide
Proto Bench specs are most useful when a team must settle placement, access, and expected material handling. Read them alongside your current bench height, operator reach, and how often the spindle area needs to be cleared between jobs. A smaller machine can still become awkward if the enclosure swing, cable path, or chip tray access is ignored.
Measure the actual workstation, then mark where the machine body, controller, extraction line, and stock staging will sit.
Checklist
- Machine footprint checked against bench width
- Cable and hose routes marked early
- Bench photo attached with layout notes
Workshop conditions that affect planning
Bench space in South African workshops is rarely empty, so Proto Bench measurements need to be checked against existing vices, extraction hoses, monitor arms, and power points. Teams collecting through OR Tambo or arranging delivery to Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, or smaller towns should also note crate access, doorway width, and where the machine will be assembled. If there is tooling, jigs, or another machine in service, record that before comparing layout options.
Power cuts change more than run time. It affects restart routines, when a long prototype cut is scheduled, and where backup power or surge protection sits in relation to the machine. Ventilation, chip collection, and safe storage of MDF and aluminium offcuts should be considered at the same stage as the machine dimensions.

Numbers to note before ordering
Record the bench size, the free space at the front, and any shelving or wall obstruction above the work area. Add the stock lengths you expect to handle most often so overhang and loading direction are considered from the start.
Keep a copy of these specs with the material sheet and workstation sketch for the buyer, lecturer, or workshop lead. That file is usually the quickest way to confirm whether Proto Bench fits the intended prototype station without shifting half the room first.
